CityView Hires Brad Barsily to Lead Institutional Capital Raising
Establishes First New York Office
LOS ANGELES, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Henry G. Cisneros, Executive Chairman of real estate investment company CityView, today announced that the company has hired Brad Barsily as Senior Vice President – Capital Development to lead the company's global capital raising efforts. Mr. Barsily joins CityView after having spent the previous two and a half years as a Principal with Greenwich, CT based Atlantic-Pacific Capital (APC), one of the largest private equity and real estate focused placement agents in the world.
CityView is one of the nation's premier institutional investment management firms focused on urban real estate, in-city housing, and metropolitan infrastructure and is an actively managed, fully-integrated operating company. CityView was founded in 2000 by Henry Cisneros, who served as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in President Clinton's Administration. CityView currently manages multiple funds, all focused on urban solutions. Among its largest investors are pension systems for employees of the State of California (CalPERS), the City of Los Angeles (LACERS), the County of Los Angeles (LACERA), and the Los Angeles Fire and Police Plan (LAFPP), as well as JP Morgan. In total, CityView has invested in over $2 billion of assets and its three funds have invested in more than 20 metropolitan areas in 13 states across the country.
According to Mr. Cisneros, "Since its inception, CityView has enjoyed strong relationships with several highly regarded institutional investors and invested capital for them with great results. However, we believe that now is an ideal time to expand the scope and breadth of our relationships throughout the institutional capital markets and Brad brings with him deep experience and a track record of success in developing relationships and raising capital that will help CityView continue its trajectory of growth and capitalize on the timely opportunity we see for each of our investment initiatives."
Mr. Barsily will have primary responsibility for identifying capital partners to invest alongside CityView in connection with several of its various urban-based investment strategies including those focused on value-add multifamily acquisitions, distressed for-sale housing, and sourcing, structuring and marketing uniquely structured mezzanine debt associated with financing urban infrastructure investments. Mr. Barsily will also lead CityView's effort to establishing a unique Co-Investment Joint Venture which will allow investors the opportunity to invest alongside CityView in funding sponsor equity in carefully selected real estate transactions while paying no fees on committed capital and retaining discretion on investments.
Additionally, Mr. Barsily will establish the company's initial presence in New York City, effective April 1st, expanding the Los Angeles based company's national footprint. CityView also has two offices in Texas located in Dallas and San Antonio.
Sean Burton, CityView's Chief Executive Officer added that "CityView's principals have invested with great success on a national level and the establishment of a New York office is an ideal place from which to base our capital development efforts while also creating a beachhead on the East Coast for the company's future growth. We are delighted that Brad has agreed to join our team and we look forward to his leadership in creating long-lasting partnerships with world class investors."
Prior to his tenure at APC, Mr. Barsily spent 10 years as Director of Capital Markets for Connell Finance Company, Inc., a New Jersey based merchant bank with extensive experience and expertise in structuring and investing in real asset based transactions. Connell is also an active owner, operator and developer of institutional quality real estate. Mr. Barsily is a graduate of Columbia Graduate School of Business, where he received his MBA in Finance and International Business, and Union College in Schenectady, NY.
