MIAMI GARDENS, Fla., Feb. 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Dreams come true with hard work and determination and yesterday, dreams and hard work were realized when Moonlight, the Miami-based movie, won the coveted Academy Award for Best Picture.
Part of the amazing Moonlight ensemble, were two students from Miami Norland Middle School's Theater Magnet program, Miami Gardens' Residents Alex Hibbert and Jaden Piner. It is said that opportunity is when luck and preparation meet and for Hibbert and Piner, luck and preparation came in the form of their theater instructor Tanisha Cidel.
Cidel, a Miami Gardens' native, began her own theatrical journey at Miami Norland Middle School. She has come full circle from Norland to New World School of the Arts, to Florida A&M University to Florida International University and landing back at the school where it all began.
According to Cidel, "the arts are what she knows and loves." The City is grateful that she wants to impart her knowledge with our students in Miami Gardens.
The City of Miami Gardens is extremely proud of our three Miami Gardens' Residents who have made being great their goal. From teaching to acting, Cidel, Hibbert and Piner have placed this City on the map for theatrical talent.
On Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the City's premiere event, Jazz In The Gardens Music Fest, Mayor Oliver Gilbert will present the Key to the City to Alex Hibbert, Jaden Piner and Mrs. Tanisha Cidel not just for the Oscar win but for being an example that the sky is the limit. Not only did they dream big, they finished big!
