As of Jan. 1, 2014, City of Hope will own and operate the radiation oncology service at 301 W. Huntington Drive as an extension of the services offered at City of Hope National Medical Center in Duarte. Radiation therapy at the service will be overseen by Jeffrey Y.C. Wong, M.D., chair of radiation oncology at City of Hope.
The service will be staffed with a team of City of Hope board-certified specialists. These experts will work closely with Methodist physicians and other local physicians, as well as with other cancer specialists at City of Hope, to provide world-class radiation therapy to cancer patients in the Arcadia area.
"City of Hope is proud to be able to offer new options to patients in the Arcadia area," said City of Hope President Robert Stone, who also assumed the role of chief executive officer on Jan. 1. "Radiation therapy is a crucial component of many cancer treatment plans, and patients should have access not only to the highest-quality care but also care that is convenient for them and their families."
The radiation oncology service will continue to operate with its current staff, who will be employed by City of Hope National Medical Center, and patients should see no disruption in their care.
For City of Hope, the expansion is part of a larger effort to provide cancer care in the right place at the right time to the largest number of patients. The institution recently opened a state-of-the-art clinic in Antelope Valley and is also engaged in partnership talks with Providence Health & Services of Southern California.
