Elster's EnergyAxis will provide the City of Dayton with automated metering infrastructure, allowing it to modernize its infrastructure to provide customers with clear pricing and usage information through time-of-use (TOU) rates. With TOU rates, the community will be able to better manage, monitor and control energy consumption and costs. The Elster Smart Meters will be installed by the Dayton Electric Department with a project completion date of September 2012.
"It is the City of Dayton's top priority to provide customers with improved energy efficiency, better customer service and more flexible rates," said Frank Welch, Dayton city manager.
"With Elster's field-proven Smart Grid solutions, we are future-proofing our technology and driving operational efficiency and business process improvements that will help cut energy costs," Welch added.
To promote energy efficiency, the Tennessee Valley Authority has recommended that its Tennessee Valley Public Power Association members migrate from seasonal rates to TOU rates.
"Elster's work with the City of Dayton represents another significant step in the Tennessee Valley Public Power Association's push to modernize its electric infrastructure with Smart Grid technology," said David Green, executive vice president, customers and markets, North America, Elster.
