City of Berwyn Welcomes Federal Agencies to the 27th Annual National Night Out Event
BERWYN, Ill., July 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The City of Berwyn, Berwyn Police Department, and Berwyn Fire Department are pleased to announce federal law enforcement agency participation along with local, county, and state representation in the 27th Annual National Night Out event on Tuesday, August 3, 2010. National Night Out is Berwyn's marquee event in its effort to enhance awareness around public safety issues and to strengthen partnerships between law enforcement and the community. To reinforce these goals, Berwyn will bridge the gap at the federal level by featuring demonstrations and representatives from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), U.S. Marshals Service, Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and military and veterans groups representing the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, and U.S. Marine Corps. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will bring out key personnel to speak with the community. Additionally, the FBI will enact demonstrations with Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) agents, who engage in the most serious, high-risk encounters. Lastly, the FBI will conduct child fingerprinting and hand out National Child Identification Program kits, which assist parents in gathering information that could help identify their child in the event that the child is reported missing.
Now in its 27th year, National Night Out is shared by over thirty-six million people in over fifteen thousand different communities across North America. A huge success locally, Berwyn produced the top ranking National Night Out event in the State of Illinois and the 12th in the nation last year. With an attendance reaching over 7,000 participants, the event benefits not only Berwyn residents but also the expected visitors from the greater Cook County area, bringing neighbors and communities together to reduce crime, drugs and violence.
National Night Out will take place at Morton West High School at 2400 Home Avenue in Berwyn, IL. The 2010 event will have a showing of full force from Berwyn's Police and Fire departments as well as local law enforcement from Berkeley, Bolingbrook, Bridgeview, Brookfield, Burbank, Cicero, Cook County, LaGrange, Lyons, McCook, North Riverside, Oak Park, Romeoville, Schiller Park, Stickney, Stone Park, Westchester, and Westmont. In the wake of the recent floods, a booth will be hosted by representatives from the City of Berwyn and the Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management to answer questions for those that have incurred flood damage. Other featured exhibits include an Illinois State Police Transformer vehicle, an appearance by the cast of the Chicago-based reality TV series Wrecked – Life in the crash lane, Fire Department demonstrations with a "live burn" being extinguished and a simulated Jaws of Life extrication, the "Little Obie" train ride, a Bike Rodeo, and an Illinois Crime Scene Investigation processing display. Additionally, participants can enjoy food, live entertainment from Sokol Tabor dancers and Chi-Town Finest Breakers, a chance to get an autograph from Moose Skowron of the Chicago White Sox, music from Heartless, fireworks, and a Kid's Zone featuring air slides, children's games, baseball radar speed pitching, and a Chicago Fire interactive soccer display.
