WASHINGTON, Oct. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Three prominent international and U.S. mayors -- Fumiko Hayashi, of Yokohama, Japan; Ethan Berkowitz, of Anchorage, Alaska; and Martin Walsh, of Boston, Massachusetts -- will participate in a National Press Club Newsmakers news conference on Thursday, October 8. They have come to Washington to talk about the role theirs and other cities are playing in providing solutions to the global climate crisis.
The three mayors are part of a larger international partnership of mayors gathering in Washington D.C. this week to participate in Our Cities, Our Climate (OC2), a Bloomberg Philanthropies and U.S. Department of State Partnership. OC2 is uniting U.S. and international cities committed to addressing climate change and preventing its harmful effects. Other OC2 events are also taking place in San Francisco (9/30-10/3), Boston (10/4-10/7) and Washington, D.C. on October 7-9.
The news conference will feature discussion of the broader effort U.S Secretary of State John Kerry and Michael Bloomberg, the UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for Cities and Climate Change, have orchestrated to inspire climate change solutions and exchange ideas about how cities can continue to drive action on climate change.
All three mayors will participate in a panel discussion moderated by National Press Club President John Hughes and then will take questions from the assembled media.
This NPC Newsmakers news conference is scheduled for Thursday, October 8 at 9:00 AM in the club's Zenger Room on the 13th Floor of the National Press Building, 529 14th St. NW, Washington DC 20045. Bloomberg News' John Hughes, President of the National Press Club, will be hosting and moderating the discussion.
Like all Newsmakers events, this news conference is open to credentialed media and club members, free of charge. Food and coffee will be provided.
