"We applaud the U.S. Senate for joining the House in passing the "Farm Bill" earlier today. We are glad Congress has recognized the critical need for economic development investments in cities and towns to ensure that every community will have the resources necessary for vital infrastructure projects, including clean water and safe wastewater systems, resources for managing growth and programs to help homegrown entrepreneurs and small businesses succeed.
"While we recognize that all our priorities may not be met even in the vast scope of the Farm Bill, we remain disappointed in the cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program which will make it difficult for many families to obtain adequate nutrition.
"We call on President Obama to sign the Farm Bill as soon as it reaches his desk so that cities and towns of all sizes can continue the vital programs that promote the health and wellbeing of their communities."
The National League of Cities (NLC) is dedicated to helping city leaders build better communities. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
