During the events, Oliver, who serves as Miss New York, spoke to more than 3,000 elementary and middle school students about the importance of diversity awareness, the elimination of bullying and breaking stereotypes.
"I am so grateful to CITGO, Warex Terminals Corporation and SPJ for providing me with the opportunity to spread our anti-bullying and diversity awareness message to so many Long Island students," Oliver said. "The CITGO Fueling Good platform allowed me to share my passion of working toward a bully-free world with so many children this week who need to know they are special and need to be empowered to stand up for themselves and others."
The school visits included interactive "Stand Up If" presentations, where students were asked to stand when a descriptive sentence related to them, showing the students that they often have experiences in common with classmates outside of their friend group. Miss New York also shared personal stories about her experiences with negative stereotypes.
CITGO marketers were on hand to talk about education and the value of giving back to the community at the CITGO "Fueling Good Day" school visits. CITGO representatives also gave teachers an opportunity to participate in the new CITGO Fueling Education Promotion, which provides educators with a chance to win $1,000 in school supplies for their classrooms through a CITGO partnership with ClassWish.
"We are proud to promote education and support this anti-bullying initiative in the Long Island community with CITGO, SPJ and the Miss New York Organization," said Joe Raineri, director of marketing at Warex Terminals Corporation. "We know the students greatly appreciated the presentations and will continue to fuel good at their schools."
