"We are deeply grateful to CITGO for helping us support even more families in Louisiana who are battling cancer," said Todd Parker, president of Colors for a Cause. "It is often necessary to drive long distances to receive cancer treatment, which adds even more financial strain at a difficult time. This generous donation will help Colors for a Cause provide travel assistance to families while continuing to raise awareness of all types of cancer that affect our communities."
Colors for a Cause was founded in 2011 to raise awareness and provide assistance to individuals and families dealing with cancer. The organization provides resources that help families pay for everyday expenses, such as mortgages, rent or travel expenses. They are also committed to raising cancer awareness. The organization transforms retired emergency vehicles into mobile cancer awareness buses, using them to visit communities throughout the state and raise funds for individual cancer patients who need financial assistance.
"Cancer of any kind is physically, emotionally and financially draining to patients and their families, so we are honored to help Colors for a Cause with its mission," said Gustavo Velasquez, vice president of supply and marketing at CITGO. "Colors for a Cause provides a much needed service in the local community, and on behalf of our CITGO Marketers and Retailers in Louisiana, as well as our Lake Charles refinery, we are pleased to help."
Over the past four years, CITGO has donated more than a million miles of good to more than 200 local heroes and nonprofit organizations through its Fueling Good program. In the latest campaign, an all-time record of more than 300,000 votes were cast to determine the 12 winning 501(c)(3) organizations.
