CITGO Marketer Folk Oil And Its Thirty-One PS Food Mart Stores Raise More Than $68,000 In "Fight Hunger. Give Hope." Campaign
Local Businesses Unite to Support Regional Food Pantries
HOMER, Mich., May 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Local CITGO Petroleum Marketer, Folk Oil Company and its 31 PS Food Mart stores located across Southeast Michigan and Northwest Ohio raised more than $68,000 dollars in just 18 days during the third annual "Fight Hunger. Give Hope." campaign. Surpassing last year's donation by more than $9,000, all money raised will be donated to South Central Michigan Food Bank and Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank as well as several local food pantries throughout Michigan and Ohio to help feed families in need across the PS Food Mart footprint.
"On behalf of Folk Oil and PS Food Mart Charities, we are extremely grateful for the amazing support from the communities we serve," said Ed Heath, vice president of operations for Folk Oil Company. "Each year, the 'Fight Hunger. Give Hope.' campaign raises even more money than the year before due to our collective dedication to ending hunger in our region."
Proceeds will directly support regional food pantries, including the Spring Arbor Food Pantry in Spring Arbor, Mich.; Williamston Food Bank in Williamston, Mich.; Trinity Lutheran Church/King's Cupboard Pantry in Hillsdale, Mich.; Jackson Community Food Pantry in Jackson, Mich. and several other local food pantries in communities where PS Food Mart operates. As a result of this donation, these organizations will be able to keep their pantries filled with nutritious food, including canned fruits and vegetables, pasta and protein. On average, these pantries help hundreds of families each week.
"The demand on our local food pantries is increasing as a result of the ongoing effects of the struggling economies in Michigan and Ohio," Heath added. "Giving as little as a $1 donation goes a long way to providing a wholesome meal to those in need. A lot of the pantries have come to depend on us for support. Fortunately, we can continue to provide record-breaking donations thanks to the hardworking employees and dedicated customers that are up to the challenge."
Since 2010, PS Food Mart Charities, through the Homer Area Community Foundation, has led the fight to end hunger in the communities that PS Food Marts serve. The PS Food Mart stores have raised more than $100,000 to help end hunger in Southeast Michigan and Northwest Ohio.
A number of local businesses and national supporters join PS Food Mart and Folk Oil in the fundraising efforts throughout the year, including Hillsdale-based Watkins Oil and Heartland Payment Systems of Plano, Texas.
