CITGO Lemont Refinery Employees Beautify Shady Oaks Camp
Team CITGO Volunteers Prepare Camp for Children and Adults with Disabilities
HOMER GLEN, Ill., Sept. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Team CITGO, a volunteer group of CITGO Lemont Refinery employees, continued its dedication to community service by helping prepare Shady Oaks Camp for another year of supporting adults and children with physical and developmental disabilities. Located in nearby Homer Glen, Ill., Shady Oaks Camp works to enrich the quality of life of its campers through outdoor activities and recreational programs.
"CITGO is proud to support Shady Oaks and all that they are doing for the developmentally disabled in our community," said Pete Colarelli, Government and Public Affairs Manager for the CITGO Lemont Refinery. "We believe that giving of our time and resources to help others is a core value. Our employees have been volunteering at Shady Oaks for many years and I'm proud of their dedication to such an outstanding organization."
Sixteen CITGO volunteers took to the grounds of Shady Oaks to spruce up the camp for summer by pulling weeds, planting flowers and spreading mulch. The team also coordinated with Turner Industries, United Building Maintenance and Sanchez Group to complete additional maintenance projects and building repairs. Projects included the installation of a paved handicapped-accessible walkway and the construction of a wooden deck outside one of the cabins.
"We are very grateful to CITGO, Turner Industries, United Building Maintenance, Sanchez Group and all those involved in our annual camp cleanup project," said Scott Steele, Executive Director of Shady Oaks. "The generosity of time, talent and funds truly made an impact on Shady Oaks and will ultimately benefit the campers. CITGO truly makes our Shady Oaks family fuel good."
Founded in 1947, Shady Oaks Camp is dedicated to providing people of all ages and backgrounds who have a disability with the same recreational opportunities and summer camp experience that their peers without disabilities enjoy. The camp provides an opportunity for personal growth, increased self-esteem, and social skills building.
