Cisco Principal Security Strategist Patrick Gray to Keynote at Vanguard Security & Compliance 2012
Attendees Will Gain Insights From Address on Data Security Challenges in the Public and Private Sectors
LAS VEGAS, May 9, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Vanguard Integrity Professionals today announced that Cisco Principal Security Strategist Patrick Gray will be a keynote speaker at Vanguard Security & Compliance 2012. Gray's speech, entitled "Data Security Challenges in the All Too Public and Not So Private Sectors," will provide details about the latest threats organizations face in their attempt to secure critical data and applications. Now in its 26th year, Vanguard Security & Compliance is the world's largest educational forum dedicated to modern information technology security training for System z®.
"Cisco is pleased to be part of Vanguard Security & Compliance 2012. Through my participation, I hope to help focus attention on the security and compliance of networked servers in addition to the network itself," said Gray. "All networked systems throughout the enterprise face the same security challenges. My speech will provide attendees with critical information about the potential exposures their networked systems face and why they need to provide a high level of security protection."
Gray joined Cisco as principal security strategist after previously serving as director of X-Force operations at Internet Security Systems. At ISS, Gray was one of the creators of the X-Force Internet threat intelligence center and also served as director of the penetration testing and emergency response teams. Prior to joining ISS, Gray spent 20 years as a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Based on his work with ISS and the FBI, Gray has first-hand knowledge of the hacking community, and its aims and methodologies as it attacks government, ecommerce, energy and financial entities.
While at the FBI, one of Gray's assignments was in the Intelligence Division where he was responsible for global counterintelligence investigations. Another assignment was as supervisor of a special operations group that ultimately morphed into one of the FBI's first regional cyber crime squads. He also investigated the September 11 attacks, as well as cases involving financial institutions, healthcare providers, public sector agencies, commercial businesses and colleges and universities. Gray continues to work closely with the FBI and other U.S. Government agencies and serves as advisor to the National Infrastructure Advisory Council for the Department of Homeland Security.
"We welcome Patrick as a keynote speaker and Cisco's participation in Vanguard Security & Compliance 2012," said Steven Ringelberg, chief global strategist at Vanguard. "We hope that attendees of Patrick's keynote address will gain a better understanding of the importance of network security. Once networks are penetrated, the proper levels of defense-in-depth security controls need to be in place to secure all servers throughout the enterprise, whether they are Windows, Linux, Unix, Oracle, or z/OS."
Vanguard Security & Compliance is committed to providing security practitioners with immediate knowledge and hands-on skills to secure their enterprise and mitigate risks using emerging security technologies and techniques. Since its inception, the event has been responsible for providing more than 10,000 System z security practitioners with z/OS® and RACF® security training to ensure the protection of their critical infrastructures. Each year as the security threatscape and regulatory environment evolves, the training advances to address today's toughest security and compliance challenges.
