Circonus Announces IRONdb, Database for Graphite Infrastructure

FULTON, Md., Jan. 11, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Circonus, Inc., creators of the Circonus real-time monitoring and analytics platform, have announced the release of a new stand-alone product, IRONdb, a database which can either replace or operate alongside other backend components in the Graphite ecosystem.

IRONdb is a distributed time-series database focusing on simplistic operation, resiliency, continued operations in the event of component failure, and embedding analytics and computation.

IRONdb is fully compatible with existing Graphite components, so it has no learning curve and provides a built-in migration path. Frontend users can keep their old UI, and operations can install an IRONdb database alongside existing backend components such as Whisper and Carbon.

Because it uses the same technology as the Circonus monitoring platform, IRONdb handles high-volume, high-frequency data in a fault tolerant way, and ensures that data is highly available. This improved availability removes obstacles in the Graphite ecosystem and provides unprecedented accuracy and scalability.

For example, IRONdb uses data replication to ensure that data is available even if a machine is taken down for maintenance. This eliminates the need to maintain a cold standby to recover data, which is important because maintaining two or more copies of an entire physical architecture is costly and difficult to synchronize.

The scalability of IRONdb also makes maintenance easier and enables seamless upgrades. By eliminating the need to delete metrics and manually reshard, IRONdb reduces the time and cost of setting up new machines.

IRONdb can easily store and quickly access millions of metrics, more than was previously possible in most Graphite environments. This robust, cost-effective data storage allows for deeper, more accurate analytics using the complete data distribution.
