Circonus Announces Integration with Terraform

FULTON, Md., April 25, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Circonus, Inc., creators of the Circonus real-time monitoring and analytics platform and IRONdb time-series database, together with HashiCorp, creators of Terraform, announced the addition of a Circonus integration in Terraform.

Now, users have access to monitoring as code, using the same high-level configuration languages used to describe infrastructure. The Circonus integration with Terraform allows a blueprint of the datacenter, as well as the business rules, to be versioned and treated as any other code and allows monitoring to be shared and reused.

Circonus's API-centric design philosophy has always enabled users to treat their monitoring as code, like the rest of their infrastructure and code base. This design choice provides engineers with the flexibility and control to treat any problem as a software problem.

As the industry has moved toward API-driven platforms like AWS, DigitalOcean, Google Compute Engine (GCE), Joyent, Microsoft Azure, and even private clouds, tools like Terraform have emerged to allows an abstraction of these resources, as well as tools that are integrated with Terraform, such as Kubernetes, Nomad (for cluster management and scheduling), or Consul (for service discovery).

Terraform is the tool for building, changing, and versioning infrastructure, and can be used to manage a wide variety of popular and custom service providers. As the industry has moved towards API-driven platforms and private clouds, tools like Terraform have become essential to allow for an abstraction of these resources with a landscape to visualize these APIs.

Now, Terraform v0.9 includes an integration for managing a Circonus account. With access to the Circonus monitoring platform and API, it is now possible to manage the code base for an application's monitoring, alerting, and escalation, alongside the resources it runs on.
