CIO Executive Leadership Summit Focuses on Critical Role of the Transformational CIO in a Reset World - Driving Business Value through Technology and Innovation
WESTPORT, Conn., March 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Transformational CIOs are true leaders who drive change across the modern global enterprise, generate real business value and leverage innovative technologies for continuing growth. That was the message delivered by expert speakers and panelists at the CIO Executive Leadership Summit held earlier this week at the InterContinental Houston-Galleria in Houston.
More than 150 top level IT executives attended the invitation-only summit presented by HMG Strategy, the leading producer of CIO Executive Leadership Events in North America, and the Houston Chapter of the Society for Information Management (SIM).
Randy Krotowski, CIO, Chevron Global Upstream, Chevron, delivered the first keynote, "The CIO as a Transformational Leader – People, Process, and New Technologies." Mr. Krotowski spoke about his personal leadership journey and the lessons he has learned about building shared leadership, creating a culture of partnership and performance, and blending people, process, data and technology to create the future.
In late 2006, Mr. Krotowski became the first CIO of Chevron's newly consolidated global Upstream business. He inherited 25 independent IT organizations and business leaders that had widely varying views of the role that IT could play in their business. Four years later, Chevron had a high performing integrated Upstream IT function, a focused IT strategy, a $1.2 billion roadmap of business/IT projects that is nearing completion, and a business organization that is leading efforts to differentiate Chevron's performance through technology.
Clif Triplett, VP & CIO at Baker Hughes, the world's third largest oilfield services company, delivered the second keynote, "Challenges and Strategies for a Corporate Acquisition and Integration – An IT Perspective." Mr. Triplett offered insight into the restructuring of the IT function to improve alignment with the new businesses. In his keynote, Mr. Triplett explored the approach and tools he has used to move forward with IT organizational alignment, systems rationalization and Knowledge Management targeted at identifying and propagating critical knowledge from acquired businesses.
Marc Ferrentino, Chief Architect, Enterprise Strategy at Salesforce.com, delivered the final keynote, "Journey to the Cloud." Mr. Ferrentino painted a vivid picture of a future driven by forward-thinking, transformational CIOs. Mr. Ferrentino also discussed practical strategies for leveraging enterprise cloud computing platforms for innovation and improving traditional governance models.
The CIO Executive Leadership Summit also included executive panels on "Delivering World Class Customer Service through Technology and Innovation", "A Practical Journey to the Cloud", "The Transformational CIO – Driving Competitive Advantage for Your Company", and "The Role of the 2014 CIO".
