Cincinnati Incorporated Solidifies Resource Membership With IACMI-The Composites Institute

In 2014, the century old small business partnered with the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory to develop an innovative large-scale 3D printer, called BAAM or Big Area Additive Manufacturing.  The breakthrough technology received the "JEC Composites Magazine Special Prize" at the 2016 JEC World Composites Show And Conference for two fundamental advancements to the platform; screw-extrusion technology for deposition, which allows the BAAM system to deposit material 200 times faster than existing systems using a low-cost pelletized feedstock to reduce the cost of production by a factor of 20; and development of an industry-first ability to deposit carbon fiber-reinforced plastic pellets, which can double the strength of components and increase the stiffness by a factor of four to seven.
