Omnitrans is the public transit agency serving the San Bernardino Valley. Founded in 1976 through a joint powers agreement, Omnitrans carries more than 15 million passengers each year throughout its 480-square mile service area. Because transits have evolved far beyond just being a means of transportation for those that cannot afford an automobile, Omnitrans was looking to improve its systems to be better equipped to improve the quality of life for constituents. CIBER and Omnitrans partnered in 2008 to help reduce the number of legacy systems in use and improve the approval process.
With the completion of Phase II, the number of legacy systems has been reduced from 14 to one, there is now a single database for enterprise information, approval processes are automated, vendor communication and terms improved with vendor self-service, and employees can access the full system from the portal.
"CIBER has been a long-time partner and has again provided us with exceptional service," said Milo Victoria, CEO of Omnitrans. "This Phase II augments the work provided in Phase I, and leaves us with a single system that has greatly reduced manual efforts and human error. CIBER takes a true partner approach and puts great importance on knowledge transfer, so we are equipped to manage the new system on our own. This is invaluable to our organization."
"Because of CIBER's experience in the transit and transportation industries, we were able to utilize best practices and make this implementation of so many SAP solutions successful," stated Tom Augustine, vice president of CIBER's SAP Public Sector Practice. "We have already started the next phase that requires CIBER to strive for continued excellence in delivering business solutions to Omni."
Phase III, set to go live December 2010, consists of SAP Project System, which will help improve the executives' view of all projects.
