NEWTON, Mass., Aug. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Chyten Educational Services, Inc. (www.chyten.com), the nation's leading private tutoring and test prep service, today announced that it is launching a first-of-its-kind program to improve reading, writing and presentation skills aligned with the Common Core State Standards. The program, which is named "New Generation," launches in September of 2014 and will provide expert instruction to students in grades 3-8.
"With the onset of technology to correct our grammar, choose our words, conduct our research, write our sentences, and read our books, today's students face a diminution of even the most basic communication skills," said Neil Chyten, founder and president of Chyten. "At New Generation, reading, writing and presentation skills are our focus. With improved skills comes increased confidence, as well as improved grades and higher test scores."
New Generation fills a need for Common Core-aligned afterschool programs for students seeking to master English Language Arts (ELA) skills in reading, writing and public speaking. Common Core State Standards are used across the nation as a benchmark to measure student progress throughout the academic year. However, until now, there has been no program aimed at elementary and middle school students that places such high emphasis on developing Common Core-aligned skills in such a comprehensive fashion.
New Generation's innovative curriculum was designed by Chyten Educational Services to help students master progressively difficult readings; to expand vocabulary; to form, communicate, and support opinions; to use appropriate grammatical conventions; to analyze and evaluate writing styles and their effect on readers; and to present material in a public forum clearly, confidently, and effectively. With a limit of 12 students per class, the program is both highly selective and highly personalized.
Learning at New Generation includes creative elements that make learning serious skills more enjoyable. As students learn, they move through a land called "Realm of the Dragons." They advance by completing "quests" which assess their ability to use newly acquired skills tied to the Common Core's benchmark strands.
The initial cost of the program is only $25/hr. and Chyten plans to offer New Generation afterschool, evenings and weekends. For weekday and weeknight programs, families may choose to come 1-5 days per week. Each day will feature a different ELA subject. Initially, New Generation will be offered only Chyten's Newton, MA (www.thechytencenter.com) and Lexington, MA (www.chyten.com/Lexington-MA) locations.
"All students have the innate ability to become leaders," said Neil Chyten. "To be a leader, one must communicate effective, both through the written and spoken word. It was our hope in designing New Generation that we would inspire a whole new generation of leaders."
