Faith Comes By Hearing partnering with over 800 churches throughout the nation this Veterans Day weekend; more than 7,000 since 2008
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Nov. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Faith Comes By Hearing (FCBH) began their outreach to America's active duty military in 2008 with the first shipments of the Military BibleStick – a small, portable digital audio device pre-loaded with a dramatized recording of the complete New Testament. More than 234,000 BibleSticks have been given to our brave men and women in uniform by over 1,100 chaplains and/or chaplain assistants participating with the program. While free of charge to the troops, there is a significant cost to providing many thousands of these quality hi-tech devices. For the most part, those costs have been covered by gracious individual donors and the collective giving of thousands of churches across the country.

Over 7,000 churches – across 120 denominations – have participated in Faith Comes By Hearing's Military BibleStick outreach since its inception in 2008. In honor of Veterans Day this year, over 800 churches will present the project to their members and take up an offering to provide more BibleSticks to troops stationed around the world. For nearly half of these congregations this will be the second or third presentation and subsequent gift to the ministry.
"As a part of Faith Comes By Hearing, and as a military mom, I continue to be humbled by the generosity of the American church toward our heroes serving overseas," says Gail Holien, supervisor of the FCBH team responsible for contacting and encouraging churches to partner in support of the project. She is also the mother of a Marine Gunnery Sergeant who has served multiple tours abroad – including Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan.
Holien continues, "In every church, there are families that have a loved one serving, or at least know someone who is sacrificing in defense of our country overseas. That's why giving to this project is so personal to so many people."
Currently, the ministry has a backlog of requests from chaplains asking for more than 20,000 additional units, which unfortunately means troops may have to wait months before receiving their own BibleStick. The ministry, however, remains committed to meeting every request.
"As long as chaplains are seeking BibleSticks for the troops they serve, we will be working diligently to meet that need," concludes Holien.
The package a soldier receives includes the BibleStick, ear buds, and a triple-A battery. There is also a postage-paid postcard that he/she can return to the ministry for Audio Bibles on MP3 discs to be sent to their spouse and children back home. As a result, a $25 donation will bless an entire military family.
Faith Comes By Hearing is the world's largest Audio Bible organization, with Audio Scripture recordings in over 690 languages. They have been in ministry for 40 years and established their military outreach in 2008.
