Church Seeks Justice for Trayvon Martin
WASHINGTON, March 26, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Tuesday, March 27, 2012, members of the Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in Clinton, Maryland will converge at the Department of Justice in Washington, DC to protest the unjust killing of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Sanford, Florida on February 26, 2012. The Rev. Delman Coates, Ph.D., Senior Pastor of the 8,000 member suburban Washington, DC congregation urged his parishioners to let their voices be heard this Tuesday at a Justice for Trayvon Rally he is leading in Washington, DC. Supporters will join Dr. Coates in calling for the prosecution of George Zimmerman on federal hate crime charges. "As a community of faith, we join those calling for immediate action to be taken against Mr. Zimmerman. We are deeply disturbed about the failure of law enforcement to arrest Trayvon's killer, and the presupposition that his killing was justified based upon his attire or appearance. Failure to arrest, prosecute, and try George Zimmerman for his actions establishes a very dangerous precedent in America. This failure could embolden any overzealous person to commit acts of violence against innocent citizens based upon their own prejudice and personal bias. This simply cannot be tolerated in a modern pluralistic society where we must try to break down the walls that divide us in pursuit of common ground."
The "Justice for Trayvon Rally" will take place at 12noon, Tuesday March 27, 2012 in front of the Department of Justice building at 950 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. The church is encouraging all those concerned about this case to come out in support.
