The Big Sister Association of Greater Boston serves more than 2,700 girls, age 7-20, through professionally supported relationships with trained women mentors and enrichment activities led by expert staff. Big Sister Boston was recognized with the 2015 Gold Standard Award for service excellence from the federation's Nationwide Leadership Council.
"I can't think of a better organization to partner with for International Coaching Week," said Carmody. "The Big Sister staff members are committed to helping girls realize there potential. As coaches, we also strive to unlock our clients' full potential."
ICW was started in 1999 to educate the public about the value of working with a professional coach and acknowledges the progress made through the coaching process. The International Coach Federation (ICF) is a proud sponsor of ICW. ICF is the leading global organization for coaches with over 20,000 members and 16,000 credentialed coaches in more than 100 countries worldwide. ICF is dedicated to advancing the coaching profession by setting high ethical standards, providing independent certification, and building a worldwide network of credentialed coaches.
Professional coaching focuses on setting goals, creating outcomes, and managing personal change. Coaches honor the client as the expert in his/her life and work and believe every client is creative, resourceful, and whole. Professional coaching is a powerful experience that is shifting corporate culture from command and control to collaboration and creativity. Coaching is developing stronger leaders, better communicators, more productive employees, and increasingly positive people.
"Coaching is a critical component of professional development," said Big Sister Boston CEO Deborah Re. "We are heavily invested in tapping into areas where our staff want to grow and thankful for the opportunity to partner with Chrysalis to offer this unique and important experience."
Carmody is a long-time supporter of the Big Sister Boston. She previously served as a Young Professional Board Member and is currently a Big for a Day (BFAD). BFAD is a program designed to serve girls on the waiting list to receive Big Sisters. On Saturday, Carmody participated in a Girls are Great Engineer's themed BFAD hosted by the Society of Women Engineers at the Microsoft Nerd Center.
"Karen sets a great example of how someone can support Big Sister Boston and the girls of our city in a variety of ways," said Alexis Harvey, Vice President of Human Resources & Administration.
In addition to working with her corporate and individual executive coaching and consulting clients, Carmody also provides coaching and mentoring to non-profit organizations.
