Chromalox publishes white paper on cost savings associated with medium voltage electric heating systems

PITTSBURGH, July 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Chromalox, a leading manufacturer of electric heat and control products, today announced the availability of a seven-page white paper on the benefits of DirectConnect medium voltage electric heating systems. The white paper explains how this technology can greatly reduce the cost of ownership for thermal applications.

The white paper notes that certain applications in such heavy industries as power generation, oil and gas, petrochemical and chemical now demand multi-megawatt electric heating systems. At low voltages, these systems lead to challenges involving power distribution, process design and costs.

The publication also covers the benefits and cost savings associated with upgrading to heating systems operating at 4160 volts. Individual sections discuss estimated savings associated with installation, operation, maintenance and product life cycles. Installation savings, for example, derive from eliminating step-down transformers, wiring sizes and numbers, and associated labor. The white paper concludes with a real-world case study conducted for a U.S. refinery in need of a 2.4 MW electric hot oil process heating system. It separately tabulates the costs for installation, operation, maintenance and life cycles for each system.
