Chromalox gains DNV GL certification for self-regulating heat trace cables
Certifies use in the maritime, offshore oil and gas, and energy industries
PITTSBURGH, July 24, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Chromalox, the world's largest manufacturer of industrial heat and control products, announced receipt of DNV GL certification for a selection of its heat trace cables and accessories. DNV GL, one of the top three global certification bodies, represents the world's largest ship and offshore classification society. It's also the leading technical advisor to the global oil and gas industry, and a leading expert for the energy value chain, including renewables and energy efficiency.
The Chromalox self-regulating heat trace cables certified by DNV GL are models: SRL, SRP, and SRM/E. Additionally Chromalox received this certification for associated U-series heat trace cable connection kits: UPC, UMC, UES, RTES, and SSK. The connection kits provide convenient connection to the user's power wiring in a water-resistant enclosure. DNV GL certifies these products for service in the maritime, offshore oil and gas, and energy industries, including various hazardous locations. Applications reach across all vessel types and offshore structures.
Chromalox self-regulating heat trace cables provide safe, reliable heat tracing for maintaining temperatures of pipes, valves, tanks and similar applications, including freeze protection. The SRL, SRP, and SRM/E heat trace cables are designed to maintain temperatures up to 150 degrees F (65 degrees C), 230 degrees F (110 degrees C), and 302 degrees F (150 degrees C) respectively. Technicians can easily cut and splice the heat trace cables to any length up to the maximum circuit length. In addition, the heat trace cables can be overlapped without the chance of burnout.
Chris Myers, Product Manager for Heat Trace Cable, notes that the heat output of these heat trace cables varies inversely with temperature, providing the self regulation. "As process temperatures drop, the heat trace cable's heat output increases, and vice versa," he says. This feature provides energy efficiency. Myers adds that self-regulation also minimizes the chances of over-temperature conditions.
