SHORT HILLS, N.J., Sept. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- To honor Spinal Cord Injury Awareness month, the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation will host 16 straight hours of social media posts via Facebook, Twitter, and all other means of social media on Tuesday, September 20th to promote the Foundation's belief in "the power of we."

From 8:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. (EDT), the Reeve Foundation, its ambassadors, supporters, and celebrity and social media friends will consistently post and tweet messages about the Reeve Foundation, its critical mission, its programs, and news from the paralysis community.
The goals of the Reeve Foundation's first-ever social mediathon are to raise awareness of paralysis among the philanthropic social media crowd and to emphasize that important research and quality of life initiatives cannot be supported without donations.
Celebrities joining the efforts of the Reeve Foundation's Social Mediathon will include comedian Chelsea Handler, ESPN analyst Adam Schefter, television personality Carson Kressley, actress Odette Annable, actor Dave Annable, Rutgers football star Eric LeGrand, Major League Soccer star Daniel Hernandez, nonprofit social media guru Beth Kanter, and others.
"The nearly 1.3 million Americans living with spinal cord injuries undeniably need our help," says Peter T. Willderotter, Reeve Foundation President & CEO. "The power of 'we' is just that—it's powerful. We are asking our friends to use the power of social media to let their fingers do the talking so that others have a chance to start walking. "
The Foundation is asking those social mediathon participants who are able to donate one dollar for every year they have been able to walk. These micro-donations, together with the constant, highly visible stream of social media updates, will demonstrate that there is strength in numbers—reinforcing the Foundation's belief in the "power of we."
