MIAMI, April 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Trinity Broadcasting Network, the world's largest religious broadcaster and America's favorite faith-and-family channel, will partner on Good Friday, April 18th, in an "End Gun Violence" outreach in Miami, led by former NFL football player Charles Jackson, founder of the Making of a Champion youth program, which mentors fatherless boys and disadvantaged youth, helping them to reach their God-given potential.
The Good Friday "March on Liberty City to End Gun Violence" will focus especially on the "Pork & Beans" housing project of Miami's Liberty City neighborhood, which has a record of high crime, gang activity, and gun violence. March participants will distribute 500 Bibles provided by the Trinity Broadcasting Network, encouraging individuals to abandon violence and crime, and to turn to faith in God.
"Rarely a day or week goes by that there is not a shooting or a killing in these neighborhoods," said Jackson. "The people who live here are actually prisoners of this violence. But we believe that God can turn the hearts of those who are participating in this violence in a different direction. That's the purpose of this march."
For nearly twenty years Jackson, who played professional football in the late 1980s with the Washington Redskins, has worked with boys and young men in these very neighborhoods through his non-profit Making of a Champion youth program. "We show these individuals, many who have had little positive influence in their lives, that crime, drugs, violence, and all the issues that have defined their world do not have to define their future. There is a way out, and His name is Jesus."
TBN Vice President Matthew Crouch noted that the Christian network has had a strong presence in Miami for over thirty years through WHFT, the full-power television station that reaches over 1.5 million homes in the area with five TBN faith-and-family channels.
"Personal investment and involvement are key to the needed changes that will transform neighborhoods like Liberty City," said Mr. Crouch. "Charles Jackson has spent the past twenty years pouring into the lives of youth who are crucial to the future of this community. We applaud his efforts and are thrilled to partner with him in this Good Friday March on Liberty City to End Gun Violence."
Miami's March on Liberty City to End Gun Violence will kick off with a press conference April 18th at 4 p.m. at the corner of 22nd Avenue North West and 79th Street, with the march through Liberty City to follow. For more information call 786-236-5440.
