Chris Zablocki of Essex Wins 2017 Eversource Hartford Marathon, Meseret Dekebo of Ethiopia Takes Women's Marathon Race
New Haven's Tim Ritchie sets new course record in Eversource Hartford Half Marathon, Grace Kahura wins second straight women's half marathon race
HARTFORD, Conn., Oct. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Hartford Marathon Foundation's 24th running of the Eversource Hartford Marathon on October 14, 2017, was won in 2:17:59 by Essex runner Chris Zablocki, a graduate of Xavier High School. Highlighted within the event's New England's Finest elite program, Zablocki currently holds the world record in the indoor marathon. Marathon second place finisher Brian Harvey, who was the 2016 event champion, was also part of the regional elite program. Harvey, from Cambridge, MA, had a time of 2:19:13. Jason Ayr of Brighton, MA, placed third with a time of 2:20:37.
Winner in the women's marathon race, Meseret Gebre Dekebo, of Ethiopia, came in at 2:37:27. Samantha Roecker, of Ballston Lake, NY, place second with a time of 2:38:14. 2016 women's marathon champion Elizabeth Ryan, of Boston, MA, came in third with a time of 2:44:03.

Setting a new half marathon course record by almost a minute, Timothy Ritchie, of New Haven, won with a time of 1:02:41. Harbert Okuti, of Tarrytown, NY, came in second place in the 13.1 mile race with a time of 1:05:20. With a time of 1:05:47, Everett Hackett, of Hartford, CT, came in third place.
For the second straight year, Grace Kahura, of Kenya, won the women's field of the half marathon with a time of 1:14:41. Closely following in second place with a time of 1:14:42 was Kaitlin Goodman, of Providence, RI. Hilary Dionne, of Charlestown, MA, came in third place with a time of 1:15:54. Dionne, the second place finisher of the 2016 women's half in Hartford, and Goodman are both members of the 2017 New England's Finest field.
Winning the Charity 5K at the Eversource Hartford Marathon was Nicholas Migani, of Higganum, with a time of 15:40. Samuel Alexander, of Mystic, took second in 15:59 and Henry Reichart, of New Haven, took third in 16:07.
In the women's 5K race, Pascaline Jerotich, of Kenya, won with a time of 18:17. Katrina Vassallo, of Peabody, MA, came in second place with a time of 18:38. Suffield, CT, runner Cheryl Sunshine came in third place in 19:47.
