CHPA Responds to Michigan Legislature's Passage of Real-Time, Stop-Sale System
WASHINGTON, June 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) released the following statement in response to the Michigan House and Senate passing legislation implementing a real-time, stop-sale system, which allows law-abiding citizens to access common cold and allergy medicines containing pseudoephedrine (PSE), while blocking sales that exceed the legal limit:
"We are very grateful for the hard work and thoughtfulness demonstrated by Michigan's legislators in voting to support a real-time, stop-sale solution to the state's methamphetamine abuse problem. We believe this is legislation that Governor Rick Snyder should sign into law as it stops sales to any person seeking to exceed the legal limit when purchasing products containing pseudoephedrine, while allowing families and workers to access safe and effective medicines," said Carlos Gutierrez, director of state government relations for the Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA). "Electronic stop-sale technology has been enacted in 19 states, works across state lines and provides law enforcement a critical tool in its battle against meth production, while allowing law-abiding citizens to obtain the common cold and allergy medications they need."
