CHPA Lauds Enactment of Real-Time, Stop-Sale Technology
WASHINGTON, July 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) today released the following statement in response to Governor Rick Snyder signing into law legislation creating a real-time, stop-sale system in Michigan, which blocks illegal sales of products containing pseudoephedrine while allowing law-abiding citizens to access the medicines they need:
"With Governor Snyder's signature, the State of Michigan has taken a significant step toward stopping meth production and abuse by instituting real-time, stop-sale technology that will disallow anyone from purchasing more than the legal limit of common cold and allergy medicines containing pseudoephedrine, while at the same time, maintaining access for law-abiding parents and workers," said Carlos Gutierrez, director of state government relations for the Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA). "Michigan now becomes the 19th state to adopt electronic technology and will block thousands of illegal sales at the counter, which will stop millions of dollars of meth from ever being created, hitting our streets or making it into the hands of our children. This new law also provides law enforcement with a critical tool in its efforts to make our communities safer and punishes those who break the law as opposed to those who abide by it, yet requires access to safe and effective medicines to manage common ailments."
