CHPA Applauds Electronic Stop-Sale Technology Becoming Law in Texas
Governor Perry's Signature Stops Criminals While Ensuring Consumers Receive Continued Access To Safe & Effective Medicines
WASHINGTON, June 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) released the following statement in response to Texas Governor Rick Perry signing into law legislation that implements a real-time, stop-sale system allowing law-abiding citizens to access common cold and allergy medicines containing pseudoephedrine (PSE), while stopping sales that exceed the legal limit:
"We applaud the work of Texas lawmakers who enacted legislation implementing a real-time, stop-sale system and Governor Perry who signed it into law. Electronic tracking technology will allow law-abiding Texans access to cold and allergy medications containing pseudoephedrine, while blocking sales to anyone who attempts to exceed the legal limit," said Carlos Gutierrez, CHPA director of state government relations. "Texas now becomes the 19th state to adopt real-time, stop-sale technology that will stop criminals from exceeding limits – even across state lines. This new law offers law enforcement an effective tool to address the serious concerns Texas citizens have about methamphetamine abuse without punishing families and workers who suffer from common ailments requiring safe and effective medicines."
