NLC Academy on Global Economic Competitiveness to Take Place in Seattle
WASHINGTON, Feb. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National League of Cities will host a delegation of U.S. elected officials, senior business executives, economic officials and Chinese mayors and executives during its Leadership Academy on Local Economic Competitiveness in a Global Era in April. The Academy will increase the economic competitiveness of U.S. cities and regions in the global economy by facilitating economic relationships between China and the U.S.

The Academy, co-hosted by the Trade Development Alliance of Greater Seattle, will bring together teams of U.S. elected city officials, staff and regional leaders to discuss the opportunities and challenges of expanding trade relationships and attracting foreign direct investment. U.S. local officials will have the opportunity, in a session facilitated by the Department of Commerce, to directly engage several foreign businesses seeking job-creating investment opportunities in U.S. cities. Industries represented will include high-tech R&D, pharmaceuticals, aviation and space, auto manufacturing and high-speed transport/expressways.
As part of the event, NLC is partnering with the U.S. Departments of Commerce and Treasury to host a high-level delegation of approximately 90 representatives from China, including mayors and business executives from Chongqing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Xian, Taizhouand Weifang. The event will feature experts from the U.S. from all levels of government, academic and business sectors who will discuss the local realities of global economic development, foreign investment and trade promotion.
