China Mayors Gain Green Building Education at UC Davis
- Twenty-four mayors visiting the United States tour university's green buildings with efficiency experts from Ingersoll Rand -
ST. PAUL, Minn., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Mayors from China participating in a two-week U.S. Trade and Development Agency visit will gain green building tips at the University of California, Davis in Sacramento to improve the infrastructure in their rapidly growing home country.
The Sept. 20 tour is organized by the China Mayors Training Center (MTC) with the China Ministry of Housing and Urban Rural Development office and the U.S. China Energy Cooperation Program to provide these city leaders an opportunity to learn more about developing energy efficient buildings.
The UC Davis tour includes a close look at the Oxford Circle Dining Commons, a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified renovation with 16,000 square feet serving 1,000 students. UC Davis is one of the country's top public research universities that set a goal for all new buildings to meet or exceed the U.S. Green Building Council's silver-level LEED certification.
Ingersoll Rand worked with the university to install a Trane self-sufficient rooftop air cooling system using an indirect evaporate pre-cooler that reduces the outside air temperature without mechanical needs – eliminating the electrical load for the building.
"This building on the UC campus tells the real story of solutions addressing building efficiencies to help meet the growing energy demands of urban China existing today," said Scott Tew, executive director of the Center for Energy Efficiency and Sustainability at Ingersoll Rand. "These city leaders witnessed firsthand that we no longer have to wait for new technologies to make major gains in efficiencies and sustainability."
