The Chilean companies that will showcase their creations, from jewelry to textiles and much more, are Chantal Bernsau, Costavolcano, Marta Morrison, Origen Lo Natural, Amaru, Carmen Eva and ES Salmon Leather.
The Chilean designers will be gathered for the first time in this event in booth 6217, as part of the Handmade Global Design division. This is the industry's hallmark of design, craftsmanship, artisan, and original applications, in all media and across such categories as tabletop, ceramics, textiles, home decor, jewelry, apparel, and more.
The Trade Commissioner of Chile in New York Alejandro Cerda, said that "Chilean handicrafts have a longstanding tradition and today we have been able to take traditional techniques and products turning them into beautiful modern pieces that will be showcased at the show. They are all handmade with materials offered by nature: silver which is the principal material of Mapuche smithing; wool worked with knitting needles, spinning wheels and looms; enameled copper; in addition to handicrafts in wood, wheat and horsehair."
Some of the pieces that will be showcased are also part of the National Contest of Design and Innovation in Handcraft – CREA contest, organized by ProChile, the Service of Cooperation of the State of Chile (Sercotec)* and the collaboration of ED magazine, a publication specialized in design and handcraft.
This initiative gathered 25 renowned Chilean artists who made couples with artisans from Pomaire village on order to create new pieces and innovate in the traditional Chilean objects. The three winners of this contest had the chance to showcase their creations at NYIGF: the typical ceramic "chanchito" (piglet), the ceramic pot and a salt container, all handmade and now in a more versatile and modern version.
The NYIGF will take place at Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and Piers 92 & 94. The event gathers 35,000 qualified attendees representing all 50 states and 85 countries, and 2,800 exhibitors from a wide range of industries: gift, home furnishings and decor, jewelry, personal accessories, spa and others representing all 50 states and more than 75 countries.
The show represents all channels of retail trade, including independent retail operation, department store, specialty chain, mass market, mail order/catalog, online, wholesale trade (importer, exporter, distributor), manufacturers' representatives, trade associations, international trade groups and media (trade and consumer).
