Children's National Welcomes Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess of Denmark and Danish Business Delegation
Changes and Innovations of the Pediatric Healthcare Landscape Focus of Delegation Discussion
WASHINGTON, Sept. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Her Royal Highness (HRH) and The Crown Princess of Denmark Mary Elizabeth, visited patients, families, clinicians, and other employees at Children's National Health System today as part of a Danish business delegation touring Washington, DC and Boston this week.
HRH The Crown Princess spent time in Seacrest Studios meeting patients and reading a fairytale written by Hans Christian Anderson. While in the Studio, she announced that she will be donating books by the famous Danish author to the Children's National Family Library. She concluded her visit by cheering up children and families in the Oncology unit.
"We were delighted to host the Danish business delegation and particularly The Crown Princess today. How often does a young child get to meet a real Princess?" Kurt Newman, MD, President and CEO of Children's National said. "We value The Crown Princess' work on bullying prevention and children's mental health. She shares Children's mission to advocate for children and protect their well-being."
Touring along with The Crown Princess is a delegation of Danish healthcare business leaders. The executives spent the afternoon at Children's National learning about the evolving pediatric healthcare landscape with a focus on quality outcomes, population health, research, medical innovation, and patient-centered care. Following an overview about the U.S. pediatric healthcare landscape, the group broke into smaller sessions about emergency and intensive care, wound care, surgical innovation, audiology and hearing devices, infectious disease with a focus on Zika and Ebola, infection control, cancer and immunology, and diabetes care.
Children's National is the only pediatric health system that is part of the delegation's visit, which includes visits to the Embassy of Denmark, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, Harvard University, and IBM Watson Global Health.
"We enjoyed sharing best practices and learning from these knowledgeable Danish business leaders," Dr. Newman says. "To truly innovate and provide the best possible care for children, it's critical that we work together as a global community."
Denmark has one of the world's most developed and effective global economies. With a population of about 5.7 million, Denmark is the southernmost of the Nordic countries. It is southwest of Sweden and south of Norway, and bordered to the south by Germany.
HRH the Crown Princess was born in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia and married HRH the Crown Prince of Denmark Frederik André Henrik Christian in 2004. The Crown Prince Couple have four children: HRH Prince Christian, HRH Princess Isabella, HRH Prince Vincent, and HRH Princess Josephine.
