LOS ANGELES, Oct. 29, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Children's Institute, the social impact organization dedicated to transforming the lives of children exposed to persistent poverty and toxic stress in Los Angeles, announced they will honor Beth & Bob Lowe and Frank, Berta and Sam Gehry at first Cape & Gown Gala on November 14 in Santa Monica.
Beth and Bob Lowe are being recognized for their dedicated service to children and families in some of Los Angeles' most underserved communities. Beth Lowe served as Children's Institute's Board Chair from 1994-1997 and has dedicated much of her life to being a true champion and advocate for children. Bob Lowe, Founder and Chairman of Lowe Enterprises, served as Board Chair of The Los Angeles Metropolitan YMCA.
"Beth and I share a lot of community interests," said Bob Lowe. "One of them is a mutual concern for kids that don't have a fair chance to find a happy life and to reach their potential, so I have been very proud to support Beth in her commitment to Children's Institute, and then on my part I have been active on the board of the Los Angeles Metropolitan YMCA for 30 years."
"Children should be entitled to a nurturing environment, safe from harm, and provided with a quality education. CII strives to enable their small clients to thrive despite the trauma they may have experienced," Beth Lowe said.
The Gehry family has demonstrated generosity to Children's Institute through their commitment to design a 20,000 square foot campus in Watts, where Children's Institute has had a two-acre campus since 2007. The project is slated to break ground in late 2019 and be completed by 2022.
"CII is an incredible organization with a vitally important mission," said Frank Gehry. "I am honored to be a part of this project, which will allow CII to expand their reach to even more children and families in South LA."
Award-winning actor, singer and writer Daniel Beaty will give a special performance at the event which will also include a cocktail reception, seated dinner and live auction hosted by Billy Harris. The revenue from table, ticket, advertising and auction sales will fund Children's Institute's strategic plan initiatives for this fiscal year.
