Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota Again Ranked Among Nation's Best by U.S. News & World Report
MINNEAPOLIS and ST. PAUL, Minn., June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- For the fourth consecutive year, Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota is ranked among the top pediatric hospitals in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report's annual America's Best Children's Hospitals survey.
Once again, Children's was the only pediatric hospital in Minnesota to be recognized among the top 30 pediatric hospitals for neonatal care – the care of infants born prematurely or with other complications.
"This recognition is a reflection of the expertise and dedication that our physicians, nurses and staff bring to patients and families every day," said Alan L. Goldbloom, MD, president and CEO of Children's. "It is an honor to be recognized for outstanding neonatal care. We are proud to serve this community and we remain committed to providing the best possible care for patients and their families."
Children's takes care of the largest number of high-risk babies in the state and has a long track record for excellence in clinical outcomes as well as research and care innovation. The St. Paul Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) was one of the first in the country to move to an all private patient room model to provide more privacy and comfort to families, and to reduce the risk of infections. The Minneapolis NICU moved into a new facility with all private rooms last year.
The U.S. News report gives Children's high marks for patient safety and infection prevention. Children's was also ranked high for nurse-to-patient staffing levels that continue to be among the nation's highest, and for its designation as a Magnet hospital for excellence in nursing, bestowed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
The specialty rankings were weighed on a three-part blend of reputation, outcome, and care-related measures such as nursing care, advanced technology, credentialing, and other factors, including a combination of opinions from pediatric specialists nationwide. A detailed description of the methodology can be found at www.usnews.com/childrenshospitals.
The 2010 edition of America's Best Children's Hospitals will be featured in the August issue of U.S. News & World Report, available on newsstands starting July 27.
