Children's Hospital Scott & White to be Named for Elizabeth and Drayton McLane Jr.
-Largest gift in Scott & White's history will support pediatric care-
TEMPLE, Texas, Feb. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Board of Trustees of Scott & White Healthcare today announced long-time supporters Elizabeth and Drayton McLane Jr. have made the largest gift in the 115-year history of Scott & White to benefit its Children's Hospital. In recognition of the gift, the hospital has been named the McLane Children's Hospital Scott & White.
As natives of Central Texas, the McLanes have long supported the delivery of the right care, in the right place, at the right time. That commitment, especially on behalf of pediatric patients, has been shaped by personal experiences.
"We made the decision to become an active part in the life of the Children's Hospital as a family," said the McLanes. "Our son, Drayton III, his wife Amy, their sons Drayton IV, Brooks and Walker, and our son Denton, and his wife Amy, and their sons Jeff and Jake, have fully embraced this commitment to Children's Hospital with us."
Elizabeth and Drayton McLane Jr. have a long history of service and contribution wherever they have lived or worked. But their generosity and devotion to Scott & White is especially significant. Drayton has been a member of the Scott & White Board for 27 years and chairman since 2000. Elizabeth not only was a member of the Scott & White staff, but also has supported and contributed to Central Texas communities for decades.
The McLane Children's Hospital Scott & White is a 64-bed inpatient facility with advanced surgical suites, a pediatric emergency department, broad-based imaging and endoscopic capacities and many specialty physicians. Comprehensive children's services are now available.
"Because of the support of the McLanes, our hospital is prepared to respond to the special needs of children, different in many ways from adult medical care," said John L. Boyd III, M.D., chief executive officer and chief medical officer, McLane Children's Hospital Scott & White. "Our partnership with Texas Children's Hospital in Houston was facilitated by Drayton, and will bring enhanced comprehensive, integrated children's services to Central Texas."
The McLane gift now leads the philanthropic campaign to support the Children's Hospital and related services. Funds raised in the first year of the effort facilitated the renovations of the former King's Daughters Hospital. Children began being admitted to the stand-alone facility in the fall of 2011. Admissions have surpassed initial projections.
"This generous gift will allow us to complete the renovations to the McLane Children's Hospital, purchase equipment and build a 100,000-square-foot pediatric specialty clinic on the 40-acre campus," said Robert W. Pryor, M.D., president and CEO, Scott & White Healthcare. "The clinic is the next major development in expanding children's services. Scott & White's gratitude to the McLanes in making this a reality is beyond expression."
"The many challenges in health care today require the support of philanthropists like Drayton and Elizabeth. Their generosity is crucial to providing life saving care to our youngest and most vulnerable patients," said Alfred Knight, M.D., president of the Scott & White Healthcare Foundation. "On behalf of the families whose children will be served, on behalf of the doctors, nurses and staff who will provide the care, we wish to express our deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to the McLane family."
"The McLane's leadership and long history of generosity serves as an example to those among us seeking to make a mark on health care in our communities," said Ross McKnight, chairman of the Scott & White Healthcare Foundation.
Located in Temple at 1901 SW H.K. Dodgen Loop, McLane Children's Hospital Scott & White is a regional resource advancing pediatric care. It is the only facility of its kind between Dallas and Austin with the ability to provide access to the highest quality care to young patients residing as far away as Houston, through a 20-year affiliation with Texas Children's Hospital.
