Children's Hospital Colorado Ranks No. 5 in U.S. News & World Report 2015-16 Best Children's Hospitals Honor Roll
AURORA, Colo., June 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. News & World Report has ranked Children's Hospital Colorado No. 5 on the 2015-16 Best Children's Hospitals Honor Roll.
The Best Children's Hospitals rankings highlight the top 50 U.S. pediatric facilities in cancer, cardiology & heart surgery, diabetes & endocrinology, gastroenterology & GI surgery, neonatology, nephrology, neurology & neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology. Based on a combination of clinical data and reputation surveys of pediatric specialists, 83 hospitals ranked in at least one specialty.
Children's Hospital Colorado (Children's Colorado) ranked in nine of the ten specialties surveyed and six of the hospital's specialties ranked among the top 10, including:
- Diabetes & Endocrinology (No. 4)
- Neonatology (No. 4)
- Gastroenterology & GI Surgery (tied for No. 6)
- Pulmonology (No. 7)
- Orthopedics (No. 7)
- Cancer (No. 9)
Of the 184 pediatric hospitals invited to participate in this year's survey, only 12 children's centers nationwide qualified for the Honor Roll. The Honor Roll recognizes the centers that excel in at least three of the 10 Best Children's Hospital specialties.
Children's Colorado has been recognized as a top hospital since U.S. News initiated the rankings. Last year, Children's Colorado ranked No. 6 on the Honor Roll.
"I am so proud that we continue moving in the direction of our aspirations – to be better than the day before, the minute before," said Jena Hausmann, hospital president and CEO. "Children's Colorado wants to continuously improve so we may do the best for children in our region and across the country."
In its ranking process, U.S. News heavily weighted hospitals' patient outcomes and care-related resources. They also garnered clinical data from a detailed questionnaire sent to 184 pediatric hospitals. A sixth of each hospital's score came from annual surveys of pediatric specialists and subspecialists in 2013, 2014 and 2015. They were asked where they would send the sickest children in their specialty, setting aside considerations of location and expense.
The rankings open the door to an array of detailed information about each hospital's performance. Survival rates, adequacy of nurse staffing, procedure volume and much more can be viewed on http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals/pediatric-rankings and will be published in the U.S. News "Best Hospitals 2016" guidebook, available September 1.
"The pediatric centers on the Best Children's Hospitals Honor Roll show exceptional dedication and expertise, and they deserve our congratulations," said U.S. News Health Rankings Editor Avery Comarow. "Children with life-threatening or rare conditions need the kind of care that these hospitals deliver day after day."
