Children of Military and Veterans Recognized in April
HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas, April 2, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Dr. Mary Keller, CEO of the Military Child Education Coalition, delivers a message of support during April, Month of the Military Child. Click here to view the message. April has been designated as a time to recognize and appreciate military children for their service and sacrifice. Military children live with challenges presented by frequent moves, family separations, and life transitions that can include dealing with profoundly changed parents. In their own way, the children of our nation's service members serve alongside their military parents. Click here to read some of their stories.
As a demographic, military and veteran-connected kids number over 4 million, and 75% of them are school-age. More than 80% attend public schools in every school district in America. They move 6-9 times during their K-12 years. Forty percent of military kids will continue their family's legacy of service and decide to enlist in the armed forces someday.
After more than a decade of war, the well-being of all military-connected children depends on a strong, consistent network of supportive adults. Parents, teachers, mentors, and role models play a pivotal role. The Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) develops programs and services to mitigate the challenges they face. The newest curriculum, SPARC, helps identify students' talents and interests to maximize their potential. Click here to learn more about SPARC.
Make a difference in the life of a military child by seeking out opportunities to acknowledge their sacrifice, volunteering for organizations that support them, and recognizing their contribution to the nation.
The Military Child Education Coalition serves the children of those who serve us all and encourages efforts that strengthen our military children and ensure opportunities for their quality education.
