Childhelp is the nation's leading nonprofit helping victims of child abuse through intervention, treatment and prevention. After 60 years and over 10 million children served, Childhelp Founders Sara O'Meara & Yvonne Fedderson stress there is still much work to be done.
"It is a delight to welcome Rosevelt as a Childhelp Youth Ambassador. She's an 11-year-old girl with the voice of an angel and the heart of a warrior. She wants to make the world a better place one child at a time," says Childhelp Co-Founder and President, Yvonne Fedderson.
Psychology Today writer Kimberly Key, examined the recent rise in child maltreatment, abuse and deaths, "Something needs to be done and someone needs to speak out for the innocent victims that cannot speak for themselves."
"Rosevelt reminds us a little of ourselves when we started this mission. We were just 19 years old. We began singing but soon learned our voices were needed in communities around the country to rescue children, in the halls of Congress to change laws, and in the boardroom ensuring we were part of a vision to secure America's most vulnerable children," said Childhelp Co-Founder and CEO Sara O'Meara.
Sara O'Meara & Yvonne Fedderson were Hollywood Actresses who first used their voices in 1959 to bring hope & joy through music, which led them to save children in need. For the Love of a Child, a film regularly broadcast on the Lifetime Movie Network, shares how they were performing in a variety show for American troops overseas when they discovered 11 orphans in a Tokyo typhoon that started their journey toward saving millions of abused, neglected and at-risk children. Their Story inspired people of influence from Hollywood, the music industry, business, and philanthropy to join them in increasing much-needed awareness and support.
Childhelp Celebrity Ambassadors include Kathie Lee Gifford, Jayne Seymour, Cheryl Ladd, Betty White, John Stamos and Cameron Mathison among others who work alongside thousands of volunteers to support a national mission dedicated to create positive change for the love of a child.
Rosevelt offers her voice to raise donations and invites people to make a difference and join her efforts by purchasing her new CD at RoseveltSings.com.
These resources will directly reach the children in Childhelp's care. Rosevelt's visit to one of the Childhelp Advocacy Centers in Phoenix, AZ, allowed her to experience an integrated treatment facility providing children in harm's way a world-class team of professionals in law enforcement, the medical field, forensic counselors, legal experts and even some special four-legged friends, loving therapy dogs, to comfort hearts in need of healing. She was amazed that children who had suffered so much were able to regain trust and learn to smile again.
The vision of Childhelp Founders O'Meara and Fedderson was to, "Create a warm and safe environment where children in pain can receive the important types of services they require all in one nurturing environment." Today the Founders influence extends through their abuse prevention curriculum, Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe which is being taught in grades K-12. Also, their Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline, 1-(800) 4 A CHILD that provides a safe place for those in need to receive immediate support.
