SACRAMENTO, Calif., June 29, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- The Child Support Directors Association (CSDA) Executive Director, Greg Wilson, released the following statement after Governor Gavin Newsom signed the state budget that will promote access to the public child support program.
"CSDA is pleased to see a commitment to the public child support program reflected in the increase of $56 million for severely underfunded counties. This additional funding restores cuts to local child support and moves the program closer to adequate funding after more than 20 years of flat funding," Wilson said.
"We appreciate that Governor Newsom and the Legislature recognize the importance of child support in addressing the financial needs of struggling families. Without adequate funding, the child support program cannot sufficiently meet the needs of struggling single parents. CSDA welcomes the restoration of these funds. The restoration returns LCSAs to 2019-2020 funding levels. However, local child support agencies continue to remain underfunded against the overwhelming needs of parents with children throughout the state. More funding is needed to ensure families receive the services they need."
"Funding is not the only need of the program. We must embrace the lessons of the past year by providing access to justice through the effective use of technologies and digital services. Access to technology and digital resources reduces barriers to families and allows local child support agencies and courts to continue providing services that meet the needs of their mutual customers."
"We look forward to working with our judicial partners, the Legislature and the Governor through the continuing budget process to close inequitable local funding gaps and improve the lives of California's children and families," Wilson said.
