Chihuly Garden and Glass Launches Mobile Education Hot Shop Focused on education, new experience offers guests a firsthand look at the qualities of glass
SEATTLE, March 31, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Chihuly Garden and Glass, a long-term exhibition of Dale Chihuly's artwork located at Seattle Center, is unveiling a new educational tool -- the Mobile Education Hot Shop. Located in the exhibition's garden, the hot shop will offer guests a look at the qualities of glass first hand through 20 minute demonstrations handled by a group of local artists from Pratt Fine Arts Center. In addition to addressing the questions of daily guests, the hot shop experience will also play a key role in Chihuly Garden and Glass' partnership with Seattle Public Schools. Students visiting as part of the Science of Glass curriculum taught in Seattle 6th grade science classrooms will now be able to watch and learn from live demos.
Operational from March-May 2015, guests visiting between 11 a.m.-6 p.m. will be able to view the live demos and ask questions regarding the process. Operated out of a retrofitted Airstream, Chihuly Garden and Glass hopes the experience excites guests to further explore the region's rich tradition in glass.
"Glass is a medium that is a mystery and fascination to many people," said Michelle Bufano, executive director, Chihuly Garden and Glass. "We have found that our guests crave information and education around both the medium of glass and the process. With the Mobile Education Hot Shop, we'll be able to offer a glimpse at the qualities of the medium and inspire guests to continue their exploration of glass artists here in the Pacific Northwest."
After a summer hiatus, the hot shop will return to Chihuly Garden and Glass in late 2015 as part of winter programming.
