Chief Of California Central District's Public Corruption And Civil Rights Section Joins Jenner & Block In Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, May 15, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Jenner & Block announced today that Brandon D. Fox, former chief of the Public Corruption and Civil Rights Section of the US Attorney's Office for California's Central District, joined the firm as a partner in its Los Angeles office. Mr. Fox joins the firm's Investigations, Compliance and Defense Practice (formerly known as the firm's White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice).
"Brandon's commitment to excellence while serving in the US Attorney's Office speaks for itself," said Terrence J. Truax, Jenner & Block's managing partner. "He joins a very strong bench of top-flight trial lawyers at Jenner & Block, including many who have served the public as federal prosecutors. We appreciate that commitment to public service and are very pleased to now count Brandon as one of our partners."
Mr. Fox has broad experience as a leader in two of the country's largest US Attorney's Offices in Los Angeles and Chicago. As chief of the Public Corruption and Civil Rights Section in Los Angeles, he most recently led an historic investigation of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. This effort included the successful trials and prosecutions of elected Sheriff Leroy Baca and 20 other enforcement officers for obstruction of justice, corruption and civil rights violations.
He oversaw the successful bribery and money laundering prosecution of California State Senator Ron Calderon and supervised corruption, civil right, hate crime and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act prosecutions. During his tenure with the Department of Justice, he participated in 25 federal trials and was the lead lawyer in 20 of those trials.
"With his base in Los Angeles, Brandon strengthens our West Coast presence in our Investigations, Compliance and Defense Practice. He is a leading figure on the West Coast with deep knowledge about the region's courts, enforcement agencies, and political and business landscapes," said Reid J. Schar, a firm partner and co-chair of the practice, which was recently renamed to reflect the broad scope of services offered to clients. "With our partners in the practice based in all of the firm's offices, we are well positioned to provide the most sophisticated counsel to clients facing high-stakes investigations and trials across the country and globe."
Rick Richmond, Jenner & Block's Los Angeles managing partner and one of the office's co-founders, added, "Brandon is the rare lawyer who has the combination of skills and proven results needed to foster the continued growth of our strong white collar and investigations practice in Los Angeles. Having grown from two lawyers in 2009 to now more than 50, our Los Angeles office continues to develop with the addition of high-level partners like Brandon who expand the services we offer our clients."
Before joining the US Attorney's Office in Los Angeles, Mr. Fox served as a deputy chief of the Public Corruption and Organization Crime Section and the Financial Crimes and Special Prosecution Section in Chicago. There, he supervised virtually every area of white collar law and corporate malfeasance. After law school, Mr. Fox spent two years in private practice before clerking for US District Court Judge Amy St. Eve.
In 2016, he was recognized with the "Attorney General's Distinguished Service Award" from the US Department of Justice and Loyola Law School's "Prosecutor of the Year" award.
"It is a privilege to bring my trial and investigation experience to such an elite firm," said Mr. Fox. "I look forward to building our white collar presence on the West Coast while supporting Jenner & Block's established practitioners across the country and in London."
Mr. Fox earned his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law, graduating first in his class. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois.
ABOUT JENNER & BLOCK'S INVESTIGATIONS, COMPLIANCE AND DEFENSE PRACTICE
Jenner & Block represents individuals and businesses in criminal prosecutions, grand jury investigations, extradition proceedings and civil enforcement actions brought by state and federal agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission. The practice's high level of credibility with prosecutors enables minimization of the damage and disruption caused by these proceedings, often before charges are brought. If an indictment or charge cannot be avoided, Jenner & Block's white collar lawyers can advise on the risks and benefits of going to trial versus accepting a plea, and have the experience and expertise to take the matter to trial if necessary. The practice group's lawyers conduct internal investigations for companies that are faced with internal or external allegations of wrongdoing or that want to audit proactively for potential misconduct.
