Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile is "Mixing it Up" with a Giant Gingerbread House Display

CHICAGO, Nov. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Relive your favorite childhood memories and fairytales when you see the life-sized gingerbread house in the lobby of Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile. Until the first week of January 2012, the Chicago hotel will be displaying 1,400 pounds of gingerbread and 600 pounds of candy and sugar for guests to admire when they arrive.

The confectionary creation is not just a traditional gingerbread house, but rather an enormous gingerbread kitchen, complete with mice chefs cooking something delicious for the holiday season. More than 25 individuals worked on the display, including employees of the Chicago, IL, hotel, construction workers, electricians and student volunteers from the French Pastry School. The project began with planning in September and construction in October.

"Mixing it Up for the Holidays", the name of the giant display, will be unveiled on Friday, November 18, 2011, at 4:15 p.m. in the lobby of the Chicago family hotel, followed by a special charity event. For a $10 donation to the Children's Miracle Network, guests can enjoy holiday snacks and drinks while admiring the delicious work of art. After the event, viewing the candy kitchen will be free and open to the public.
