Chicago Magazine's Guide to Women's Health
Local experts weigh in on the city's latest medical developments
CHICAGO, Dec. 17, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Women experience many diseases differently than men—a fact the medical community didn't acknowledged until recently. Fortunately, Chicago stands at the epicenter of women's health research. In the latest issue of Chicago, the magazine examines recent breakthroughs in women's health, including fertility treatments for women with cancer, estrogen therapy for multiple sclerosis patients, and more.
The January issue of Chicago magazine, which hits newsstands Thursday, features the latest developments on a wide range of women's health issues such as heart disease, eating disorders, cervical cancer, and depression. The issue also identifies more than 250 of the area's best physicians for women in 15 different specialties. The list, put together in cooperation with Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., is based on recommendations from other doctors and hospital administrators.
"Chicago's doctors and medical professionals are truly at the forefront of women's health care research," says Richard Babcock, the editor of Chicago. "This issue makes it easy to find out who's leading the charge."
This month's issue also features Life Lines, the magazine's annual selection of Chicagoans of the Year. This year's list of honorees includes the man who brought the Stanley Cup back to Chicago after a 49-year drought, "Rocky" Wirtz, plus an educator, a preservationist, a mother searching for a cure, a woman offering shelter from the storm, and an orthopedic surgeon.
Elsewhere in the January issue of Chicago:
- Photography: Vivian Maier was an eccentric, peripatetic nanny to North Shore families. But a chance discovery after her death has spotlighted her secret talent as a photographer.
- Culture: From Bollywood to tandoori, Chicago's Little India brims with shopping, dining, and quirks galore. Our guide to the most beguiling commercial strip in the city: Devon Avenue.
Chicago editor Richard Babcock, managing editor Shane Tritsch, and other members of the magazine staff are available for on-air interviews about stories in the August issue. Contact Kate Mersman at 312-222-3165 to schedule an interview.
