Chicago Magazine's Guide to Great Fall Weekends
Six Midwest destinations—all within easy reach of Chicagoland
CHICAGO, Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- From cycling along the Mississippi to dining out on a floating cafe in Elizabethtown, Chicago magazine's upcoming issue highlights the area's best-kept secrets and getaways for the fall season.
The September issue, which hits newsstands Thursday, showcases six notable Midwest destinations, spanning Michigan to Iowa. This wide-ranging guide features stops at the charming National Brewery Museum in Potosi, Wisconsin, the Root Beer Saloon in Alto Pass, Illinois, and much more.
"There are truly spectacular places to see and things to do within a few hours' drive of the city," says Richard Babcock, editor of Chicago. "With cooler weather and fall foliage, autumn is the best time to explore them."
This month's issue also features Mayor Daley's Bucket List. As Daley's political career inevitably starts to wind down, James Ylisela Jr. offers ten suggestions for how the mayor can use the remainder of his time in office. Suggestions include a casino at McCormick Place, multiple uses for all that TIF money—and mayoral term limits.
Elsewhere in the September issue of Chicago:
- Culture: As part of the magazine's upcoming anniversary, Chicago names the city's top 40 artistic breakthroughs. Well-known names such as Wilco, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and Ernest Hemingway make the cut. Who didn't?
- Sports: The once beloved sports icon Sammy Sosa opens up to Chicago's managing editor Shane Tritsch on his bitter parting with the Cubs.
Chicago editor Richard Babcock, managing editor Shane Tritsch, and other members of the magazine staff are available for on-air interviews about stories in the September issue. Contact Kate Mersman at 312-222-3165 to schedule an interview.
