Chicago magazine Names the City's Top Pies
The 25 best pizzas in the best pizza city on earth
CHICAGO, June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Chicagoans may not have invented pizza, but they've certainly given it their own stamp. To make sense of the landscape—toppings, crust, style, flavor—the dining authorities at Chicago magazine developed a definitive list of the Windy City's best pizzas.
The July issue of Chicago magazine, which hits newsstands Thursday, ranks the 25 top pies throughout the city and suburbs. From Chicago deep-dish and Neapolitan to New York and New Haven, no pizza type or style was off limits.
"Chicago could easily—and justifiably—claim that it features the greatest variety of pizzas of any city in the world," says Jeff Ruby, the magazine's chief dining critic and author of the article. "This list of the top 25 represents the best of the best."
The July issue also features Double Take, the magazine's annual list of the 20 most eligible singles. This year's line-up includes a world-class soprano, a rising-star chef, and a major-league pitcher, just to name a few. Chicago magazine also honors these singles at Summer Lovin', a yearly event cosponsored by the Auxiliary Board of Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Elsewhere in the July issue of Chicago:
- Culture: The magazine's 40th anniversary celebration continues with a list of Chicago's top 40 greatest contributions to the English language. From "mudpack" to "flea-flicker" to "Mickey Finn."
- Architecture: In the 1960s and 1970s, architect Harry Weese enjoyed international acclaim. But this visionary's final years were filled with alcohol and sadness as his reputation faded. Now a new study of Weese's work could restore his honor.
Chicago editor Richard Babcock, managing editor Shane Tritsch, and other members of the magazine staff are available for on-air interviews about stories in the July issue. Contact Kate Mersman at 312-222-3165 to schedule an interview.
