Chicago Magazine Celebrates 40 Years With Special Anniversary Issue
40 Reasons to Love Chicago
CHICAGO, Nov. 17, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Whether it's mouth-watering pierogis in West Town or authentic gospel music in Bronzeville, every Chicagoan has a reason (or two) why they love the Windy City. For Chicago's upcoming 40th anniversary issue, the magazine pays tribute to Chicago by calling out 40 inspiring people, places, and ideas that make the city special.
Appearing in the December issue of Chicago magazine, which hits newsstands Thursday, the "40 Reasons to Love Chicago" feature includes such highlights as Roger Ebert's description of his ideal Chicago movie; a debate over Mayor Daley's legacy; insider tips from Seth Meyers, Derrick Rose, and Common, among others; and much more.
"We settled on 40 reasons because that number represents the particular milestone the magazine is passing," says Richard Babcock, Chicago's editor. "But we could have singled out many, many more—which probably helps explain why we are undaunted about moving into our 41st year and beyond."
This month's issue also features Greatest Goods, a seven-page gift guide just in time for the holiday season. From cuckoo clocks to luxury body oil, this list catalogs 85 gifts that can all be found in and around Chicago, including 40 finds under $40.
Elsewhere in the 40th anniversary issue of Chicago:
- Culture: In honor of the city's modern pioneers, the magazine names Chicago's top 40 visionaries from 1970 to 2010, including two Richard Daleys, Oprah Winfrey, and Rev. Jesse Jackson.
- Theatre: The roller-coaster saga behind the new, Chicago-backed musical Spider-Man, arriving on Broadway as the most expensive show ever.
