Chicago Captain Jonathan Toews Signs With Bauer Hockey
Stanley Cup Champion and Conn Smythe Winner Becomes Latest Elite Player to Join Bauer Family
CHICAGO, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Bauer Hockey, Inc. today announced that Chicago Blackhawks Captain Jonathan Toews has joined the company's roster of athletes, becoming the latest elite player to ink an official endorsement deal with the world's leading designer and manufacturer of hockey equipment. Toews, who signed a five-year deal with the company, will exclusively wear Bauer equipment during the 2010-2011 NHL season and will work closely with Bauer's product development team to provide insight and feedback into future product direction.
Toews led the Blackhawks to their first Stanley Cup in 49 years and earned the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player in the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The captain registered 25 goals and 43 assists in last year's championship season and led all Blackhawks with seven goals and 22 assists for 29 points in 22 playoff games. In addition to guiding the Blackhawks to the Stanley Cup, the 22-year-old Canadian earned an Olympic gold medal in February, becoming the youngest player in history to win a Stanley Cup, Olympic Gold and a World Championship.
"I've worn Bauer my entire life and its exciting to officially sign an endorsement deal with a company that truly is the first name in hockey," Toews said. "I look forward to wearing the best equipment in the game and providing Bauer with feedback and insight to help make those products even better in the future."
In addition to providing valuable insight into Bauer's product development team, Toews will be featured in Bauer Hockey's global marketing efforts. Toews joins friend and teammate Patrick Kane on the Bauer roster and both are expected to play significant roles in the company's upcoming marketing campaigns. Other members of the Bauer roster include Steven Stamkos, Mike Richards, Nicklas Backstrom, Eric Staal, Henrik Lundqvist, and standout rookie Tyler Seguin, to name just a few.
"Toews has accomplished great things in just a few years of professional hockey and we welcome him to the Bauer family," said Steve Jones, Director, Global Marketing, Bauer Hockey. "He is a dynamic player that possesses a lot of the same values we have as a company. He resonates strongly with our core consumer in both the United States and Canada, and the ability to utilize both Toews and Kane together in our overall marketing mix creates a very unique and creative opportunity for Bauer Hockey."
