Chicago Bar Association Divorce Seminar Presents Leading Matrimonial Attorneys Jeffery Leving & Maureen Gorman
CHICAGO, Nov 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Chicago Attorneys Jeffery Leving and Maureen Gorman will lecture on the complex topic of divorce at the Chicago Bar Association's monthly Law at the Library seminar. Sponsored by the Chicago Bar Association and the Chicago Public Library, the program provides free legal information to the public. With nearly forty years of experience in family law between them, Leving and Gorman will serve as knowledgeable sources of guidance for participants.
The seminar on divorce is on Monday, November 26 at 12:15 PM. It will be held at the Harold Washington Library at 400 S. State Street in the Chicago Authors Room, 7th floor.
The law-based topic of this month's seminar centers on today's primary legal issues affecting parents and children in divorce. This seminar of the Law at the Library program includes the thought-provoking words of two experienced and respected lawyers in matrimonial and custody law. After the lecture, the participants will be able to engage in a brief question-and-answer session.
Gorman is pleased with the opportunity to contribute to this great community legal education outreach program.
"Every American should be aware of their legal rights, especially when the subject matter is as critical and life-altering as family law and divorce. Divorce proceedings can literally wreck lives, and permanently damage a parents' relationship with their children. Therefore, it is vital that people understand the process, rather than become victims of it," said Gorman.
Leving has devoted his professional life to fighting for justice in and out of the courtroom. Chairman of the Illinois Council on Responsible Fatherhood (www.responsiblefatherhood.illinois.gov), Leving is passionate about safeguarding children of divorce by preserving father-child relationships.
"By providing the attendees with the tools to make informed decisions, we hope to avoid some of the malicious emotions that can come about during a divorce, especially when it becomes prolonged and emotionally damaging to the children caught in between," said Leving.
Over 50% of children in Chicago are born out of wedlock and divorce leaves too many children at risk. This exposes the obvious need for educational guidance from family law experts like Leving and Gorman.
Attorney Jeffery M. Leving co-authored the Illinois Joint Custody Law. His newest book, How to be a Good Divorced Dad (Jossey-Bass 2012) was praised by President Barack Obama and endorsed by the Archdioceses of Chicago. Leving can be found on twitter at @fathersmatter.
