Chevy Equinox has more space, mpg than VW Tiguan
Mike Castrucci Chevrolet ready with 2013 Equinox
MILFORD, Ohio, April 23, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- As people go down the road of life, they have a tendency to pick up new hobbies and interests. And many times those new interests and hobbies require carrying around more stuff, whether it is golf clubs, water skis or scuba gear. Clearly a coupe or sedan won't have the space required and a full-size SUV is overkill. That will leave shoppers squarely in the crossover SUV automotive class. There are many solid choices on the market, making searching for the right one very difficult. Mike Castrucci Chevrolet has picked a pair to compare directly to give their customers a little help in making a touch decision.

When looking at the 2013 Chevy Equinox vs. the 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan, the Chevy crossover SUV takes a few key wins right off the bat. The Chevy Equinox comes standard with a larger, more fuel-efficient engine. The Equinox starts off at its base trim with a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine that will up to record 22 miles per gallon in the city and 32 miles per gallon on the highway. The Chevy Equinox also offers a more powerful V-6 engine in its upper trims that will still get well over 20 mpg.
The Volkswagen Tiguan comes with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder and with the standard manual transmission gets 18 mpg (city) and 26 mpg (highway). The Tiguan also has an option for an automatic transmission, which improves city-driving fuel efficiency slightly. Both vehicles offer an all-wheel drive option to help handle slippery and less than ideal road conditions. However, the Volkswagen Tiguan also has a four-wheel drive option for more off-road operations. Since this comparison is all about balance, the Chevy Equinox may lack four-wheel drive, but when properly equipped it will tow up to 3,500 pounds, more than enough to get some work done or haul some toys for a fun weekend getaway.
Speaking of hauling capabilities that is another area where the 2013 Chevy Equinox near Cincinnati scores some major points over its German competitor. With the rear seats set up to move passengers, there is still 31.4 cubic-feet of space available for cargo. When the rear seat is stowed away, that space more than doubles to 63.7 cubic-feet. On the Volkswagen Tiguan, with rear passengers there is only 23.8 cubic-feet available for cargo storage and just 56.1 cubic-feet with the rear seat folded down.
